Restomod Project-A 504: Step One – Stripping Down and Tackling Rust

At Allure Provence Automotive, every restomod project begins with one essential principle: start from a solid, healthy foundation. That means stripping and going all the way back to bare metal. Our first subject? A legendary 504, soon to be reborned with a modern soul.

Why Strip It Down?

When it comes to restomodding a classic car, it’s not enough to restore what’s visible. You need to dive into the car history hidden behind the paint: rust spots, weak structural areas, previous repairs — all must be revealed before any transformation can begin.

In early Spring 2025, we spent  two full days to fully dismantle our 504: interior, mechanical components, wiring, suspension, glass — everything was removed to expose the bare shell. This allows us to assess the chassis and bodywork in detail and plan the next phase with precision.

A Crucial Phase for a Bold Restomod

This isn’t just a clean-up job. Our goal is to reinterpret this 504 as a modern GT, while staying true to its original identity. To achieve this, we need:

  • Structural reinforcements to handle more power

  • Modifications to adapt the chassis to a new drivetrain

  • Safety upgrades to meet today’s expectations

  • while still keeping the analog feeling

All of these upgrades require a strong, clean foundation — which is why this first phase is so critical in any restomod journey.

What’s Next?

Next comes the stripping and water blasting process. This will completely remove any remaining paint, filler, or surface rust, leaving nothing but bare metal — ready for welding, modification, and refinement. But that’s a story for the next update.
